The Cave Spring City Council approved the fiscal year 2026-27 budget during its called meeting on Tuesday, June 23. Council also approved amendments to the 2025-26 budget. The upcoming fiscal year includes a $2.90 increase to the base bill for City of Cave Spring water and sewer customers. The fee change includes an additional $1 per month for fire services and an additional $1 per month for garbage collection. The City's garbage provider, GFL, increased its rates by 4.3% on February 1, 2026. That additional cost is being passed on to customers. Council also approved a rental fee waiver for the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) to host the GAE Region One Spelling Bee on February 27, 2027, at the community center. The event is expected to draw between 100 and 150 attendees. The Cave Spring City Council will hold a called meeting Tuesday, June 23, at 6 p.m. at City Hall to consider several items, including final adoption of the City's fiscal year 2026-2027 budget. Also on the agenda is a request from the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) and a motel HVAC permit request. As with all council meetings, citizens will have an opportunity to address the council during the citizen's comment portion of the meeting. The June 27 Liberty Day celebration will be a bit more festive after the Cave Spring City Council approved additional funding for the fireworks display. The $3,000 contribution, which was unanimously approved during the June 9 council meeting, will come from the hotel/motel tax fund. The Downtown Development Authority had already committed $5,000 to purchase fireworks. A proposed rate increase would add $2.90 to the base bill amount for City of Cave Spring water and sewer customers. The potential fee changes include an additional $1 per month for garbage collection, bringing the monthly garbage rate portion of the bill to $19.50. The City’s garbage provider increased its rates by 4.3% on February 1, 2026. The potential change in fees was discussed as part of the 2027 budget review during the June 2, 2026 work session. Overall, the proposed water budget will increase from $1.665M to $1.696M. Much of that increase is related to software upgrades and replacement water meters. The City needs to replace 1,600 meters.
