Water, Sewer Project Updates on Work Session Agenda for June 2

The Cave Spring City Council will hold a work session on June 2 at 5 p.m. Items on the agenda include: Water project update Sewer project closeout 2026-2027 budget update DDA – fireworks request Department reports Council will also meet in executive session to discuss personnel and possible litigation. Police Department Move to Fincher Street Underway

The City of Cave Spring Police Department is in the process of relocating to the city’s Fincher Street property and could complete the move as soon as the end of the week. Chief Randy Lacey provided an update during the May 26 called city council meeting, saying the new police building has been cleaned up, painted and is largely ready for occupancy. According to City Manager Stephen Walker, the operating costs for the new police headquarters are expected to total approximately $20,000 in the first year, with costs decreasing thereafter. In other business: Former Interim Manager Gary Burkhalter’s last day with the City will be June 30. He has been acting as a finance advisor during the budgeting period. The second reading of the truck stop ordinance was approved. A copy of the ordinance will be available at City Hall for public review. Fincher Property Discussion, Ordinance Second Reading on May 26 Called Meeting Agenda

The Cave Spring City Council will meet at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26. The agenda includes a second reading of the truck stop and convenience store ordinance as well as a discussion about the city’s Fincher Street property. Council Approves Sam Stewart Drive, Heritage Circle Name Changes

Council unanimously approved a motion by Councilman Charles Jackson to rename Stewart Circle to Heritage Circle and rename Fire Station Lane to Sam Stewart Drive. As part of the motion, council also approved getting a new sign made to mark the fact the fire station is named for Sam Stewart. A sign installation ceremony will be held as well. I recently spoke with one of Sam Stewart’s family members to get feedback on the proposed renaming. The family member expressed her support and said Sam Stewart was dedicated to the fire department. She said it means a lot to have his name attached to the department he loved. In other business at the May 12, 2026, regular meeting, council unanimously approved: A 14-day extension of the truck stop moratorium. Council to Vote on Stewart Circle Renaming, Extension of Truck Stop Moratorium

The Cave Spring City Council will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 6 p.m. to consider several items including a proposal to rename Stewart Circle to Heritage Circle and the driveway next to the fire station as Sam Stewart Drive. Stewart family members have expressed their support for the renaming. Other items on the agenda include an extension of the truck stop moratorium and fencing around the old water tank above the cave.
