Police Department Move to Fincher Street Underway

The City of Cave Spring Police Department is in the process of relocating to the city’s 123 Fincher Street property and could complete the move as soon as the end of the week.

Chief Randy Lacey provided an update during the May 26 called city council meeting, saying the new police building has been cleaned up, painted and is largely ready for occupancy.

According to City Manager Stephen Walker, the operating costs for the new police headquarters are expected to total approximately $20,000 in the first year, with costs decreasing thereafter.

In other business:

  • Former Interim Manager Gary Burkhalter’s last day with the City will be June 30. He has been acting as a finance advisor during the budgeting period.
  • The second reading of the truck stop ordinance was approved. A copy of the ordinance will be available at City Hall for public review.

Upcoming city council meetings include:

  • June 2 at 5 p.m. - work session
  • June 9 at 6 p.m. - council meeting
  • June 23 at 6 p.m. - special called meeting/budget second reading

Agendas for each meeting will be posted on the city website prior to the meeting dates.

Though I cannot vote on anything until next month, I want to keep you informed about what is happening with your city government. Tonight’s work session and regular meeting covered a lot of ground. Rather than running through every agenda item, here are a few highlights. Work Session Motel update - According to City Manager Nick McLemore, renovations on the motel are moving forward.  Lights on city hall property - The city is going to ensure that the parking lot and sidewalks are adequately lit. Sewer project - Work is wrapping up and the contractors are going through some final testing and punch-list items.  Police equipment - Chief Lacey brought a request before council regarding new equipment for the police department including pistols, shotguns, shotgun racks, body cameras, radar units, a computer and software.
