Public Safety Committee Meeting Held Feb. 9

The City of Cave Spring Public Safety Committee met on February 9 as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen communication and coordination between the City Council and the Department of Public Safety. Councilmember Baker Harbin and I represent the City Council. We met with public safety leadership including Chief Randy Lacey, Assistant Chief Johnny Gomez, and Lt. Debbie McCain. Their willingness to engage in regular discussions is much appreciated.

During the meeting, we reviewed a variety of administrative, policy, and planning topics. Discussion focused on improving reporting practices, reviewing existing ordinances, evaluating traffic management options in the downtown area, and identifying items for future committee consideration.

We also discussed long-term planning topics related to facilities, equipment, and grant opportunities as part of our responsibility to support effective and forward-looking public safety operations.

The next Public Safety Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 2, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. We plan to meet monthly to ensure operational needs, equipment requirements, staffing concerns and training priorities are identified and addressed.
